HN International’s rising promise is to lend a helping hand to Sri Lankan community in need and will focus on uplifting the sustainable livelihood of nearby communities. Project ‘Senehase athwela’ the long running community initiative of HNI foundation marked its third successful milestone on 5th May 2022 in view of the International Mother’s Day by donating gift packs including baby items  for thirty expectant mothers in Wellawaya, Monaragala district. The event took place with the participation of the medical staff at MOH office and the members of HNI Foundation.

As the country’s economy takes a downturn the expectant mothers find it extremely challenging to find adequate facilities to provide for the new born. It is our understanding that bringing up and protecting the new born is the way to a sustainable future such that they, one day will take the country for prosperity. We strongly believe that no matter how difficult the current circumstances are, the new born are not responsible and they should not suffer and compromise on their healthy growth. Though it is a small gesture of kindness on our behalf, we believe that this attempt will create a ripple that will continue to grow in other corporates and turn into an unstoppable force someday.

We specially would like to commend the staff of the MOH office for identifying and shortlisting the deserving families and also for their service in maintaining and uplifting the health of these expectant mothers

As mentioned by President of  HNI Foundation Mr.Rajith Perera “The project SENEHASE ATHWELA is not just a project.it is a concept of giving which goes beyond corporate strategy and it is a chance to look back and acknowledge the fact that the greatest accomplishment of mankind is found in service for another”

A similar occurance of project senehase athwela took place in MOH BUTTALA on MARCH 2021 with a donation of gift packs including baby items for thirty five expectant mothers. It is inspiring to note the consistency of these acts of kindnesses from HNI foundation over the years which reiterate its undying commitment to the society.

Mrs  Renuk Fonseka , the Director of  community services of the organization said ,‘Hasa Nanasa’ project was another initiative of HNI Foundation in 2009 and 2013,that mainly focused on providing school uniforms to children in rural areas  since we believed that education can transform lives and uplift the living standards of these rural villagers. However after understanding that the current economic situation having devastating effect on the expectant mothers we temporarily shifted the focus to maternal and child health prevention which is also another sustainable development goal of the UNDP. We believe that other corporates also will follow this trend to serve the community in the years to come and we also are determined to continue these activities in coming years
